Shocker Track Club Youth opened the competitive indoor season at the Arkansas High School Indoor Invitational meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas, this past Saturday, January 12, 2013.  Five STC Youth club athletes competed in both sprints and long distance races.

 

Areila Schrader, a Sophmore at Rose Hill High School, set a personal record in 400m dash, at1:04.12, placing 56th out of 105 competitors.  Areila also competed in the 800m run, placing 26th out of 57, with a time of 2:40.34.

Tanner McGehee, a Senior at Rose Hill High School, placed 7th out of 45 in the 60m Hurdles finals with a time of 8.80.  He had a faster time in the prelims at 8.73. He also competed in the 200m dash, placing 101st out of 146 with a time of 24.92 seconds.

Colton Mays, a Senior at Rose Hill High School, competed in the 200m dash, placing 23rd out of 146 with a time of 22.91.  Colton also ran the 400m dash, placing 14th out of 111, with a time of 50.90.

Kenton Weber, a Junior at Rose Hill High School, ran the 800m run, placing 41st out of 99, with a time of 2:11.25; and also competed in the mile run, placing 40th out of 118, with a time of 4:54.47.

David Reaves, a Sophmore at Rose Hill High School, competed in the 800m run, placing 75th out of 99, with a time of 2:20.37; and also competed in the mile run, placing 70th out of 118, with a time of 5:08.17.

Coaches Steve Mcgehee and Patrick Simon were delighted with the team’s first performances.

“We are proud of the hard work these young men and women have put in, and the great showing they made their first competition showing of the indoor track season,” said Coach Mcgehee. “There are several more indoor meets and I’m sure these times will continue to improve.”

Shocker Track Club Youth team members next compete on Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Manhattan, Kansas at the Kansas State University High School Invitational at Ahearn Fieldhouse. The Shocker Youth Track Club is dedicated to providing opportunities in the Wichita and surrounding areas, for youth athletes to develop and compete in track and field from an introductory level to high-level competitition under the framework of USATF and experienced youth coaching staff. It is open to athletes from 8 to 18.
